The Big Word

The Big Word

Happiness. The word that everybody thinks they know the truth about, including me. The fact is, nobody has the real answer, and that’s what makes the word happiness so inspiring. Let me tell you my truth.

Happiness is not the end game, not a final state that someone can attain, not the big word at the end of your story. Happiness is the blank space between every word of your story. Happiness is the smell of coffee, the warm look of someone you love, the feeling of giving back. Happiness is a fleeting moment, a feeling of lightness.

At the beginning of our lives, we experience those small moments very regularly every day, and as life creeps in, we tend to lose the ability to see them. Don’t worry, it’s natural. We are building up our lives the best way we can, but we are accumulating bad habits along the way. We condition ourselves. You can see this conditioning as layers you accumulate over your real nature—the blank slate that is You when you are born.

The good news is, you can reverse the process. That’s when all the little moments that I call happiness start to come back. You begin to stack them every single day, and there you go.

How to decondition yourself? That’s for the next article. But in the meantime, begin the journey by identifying the little bits of happiness you experience every single day. This will be the set mark.
